Socially Responsible Companies

Read more information on Social responsible companies, and what a social responsible company would have to do.

What Would a Socially Responsible Company Look Like?

These days social responsibility is a major part of many organizations strategic plans. Investors, employees and activists now demand that companies practice social responsibility by caring for the environment or contributing to the communities these companies serve.

Realizing the market is supporting SRI practices and more and more investors are using SRI strategies, a number of socially responsible companies are making sure their investors are aware of their practices.

A socially responsible company would have to:

Stop producing products that are intrinsically harmful. For some industries this would mean ceasing to exist.

Only sell goods that were needed, could be afforded, and not manipulate consumers into spending beyond their means or promote overconsumption beyond levels the planet can manage.

A socially responsible company depends for its development on the good will of the people who work in it, and that this development can only by achieved in a harmonious relationship with the environment.

A truly socially responsible company would be transparent in terms of the levels of taxes it is paying in each of the countries in which it operates and would see paying tax as part of its responsibility to society rather than seeking to avoid it.

Thankfully, socially responsible investment firms have done the homework for you, and have screened companies to develop a list of socially responsible companies to invest in and developed funds and portfolios to satisfy the socially responsible investor.
