The modern automobile boasts of over a hundred patents. Both Leonardo da Vinci and Sir Isaac Newton drew up theoretical plans for a motor vehicle. The first self-propelled motor vehicle was a military tractor invented by French engineer, Nicolas Joseph Cugnot. A steam engine powered this vehicle which was built in 1769. Early automobiles also used electrical engines. Robert Anderson of Scotland is credited to the invention of the first electrical carriage, between 1832 and 1839. Steam and electric automobiles were abandoned for gas-powered vehicles. Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz invented highly successful and practical gasoline-powered vehicles that were the forerunners of the modern automobiles.

Antique Tractors
Antique tractors may be bought for working or for collecting. To buy an antique tractor for work purposes, choose the tractor on the basis of the lay of the land and the implements needed. When antique tractors are bought to be restored, it is often evaluated on the basis of what is left of the tractor and how much to pay. In extremely rare machines, these considerations may be ruled out. Sometimes, purchases of rare antique tractors and components take place without a preview to ensure it is not sold before the collector gets there.
