An item of value, which is at least a hundred years old, is considered to be an antique. Sometimes, loosely used, the term antique reflects the age of the user. To a teenager, a toy from the 50s or 60s is an antique. Regardless of age, anything of collectible value can be found in an antiques shop.
Antique Furniture
Original antique furniture is furniture made during the original period of its style. Antique furniture that is not original could be from the 19th century Revival Period. In England and other European countries, furniture is still made the traditional way - by hand. This may give the pieces a convincing period appearance. Fake antique furniture can look like an original to the untrained eye.
There are many eras of antique furniture; different eras and styles of antique furniture often overlap. Cabinetmakers did not stop making Queen Anne furniture on December 31, 1749 and start making Chippendale furniture on January 1, 1750. Each era influences the style of its successors, as shown in this piece.
