Apart from the traditional sports, these are the adventure sports in which high risk is involved. Motor sports is the most known one for extreme excitement.

Extreme Sports are recreational activities that are unconventional and require a high level of strength and determination. Extreme motor sports are often very risky and require an unwavering adventrous spirit.

Though traditional sports such as football and hockey are not going out of style people today prefer excitement and love living life on the edge. For many people traditional team sports mean a lot of coaching, rules, pressure, and competition. Hence many people are attracted to the individuality and unconventionality that is characteristic of extreme sports.

Ofcourse these days people are also attracted to extreme sports because they're considered "cool". Sports traditionalists legitimized Snow Boarding, the more dangerous version of skiing, when it became an official Olympic event at the 1998 Nagano Games (Japan).

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking involves vigorous cycling across the countryside or on mountain terrain and requires a high level of stamina and fitness. There are bikes manufactured which are particularly suited to the rigors of this sport. This sport can be practiced in regions, which are rugged but surmountable.

Adventure Racing

Adventure Racing is a non-stop expedition style competition carried out through a designed course. Participants are provided with maps and directions by the race organizers prior to the event. Teams are required to use strategy and navigational skills to successfully pass through each milestone along the course within the given time limit.

Bungee Jumping

The origins of this sport can be traced to the South Pacific island of Vanuatu where young native tribesmen used to leap off huge trees with vines tied to their ankles.
Modern Bungee Jumping started from the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, England in 1979. Since then the sport has spread to various countries - America, France, New Zealand and Britain are but a few. People above the age of 14 with good physical health can participate in the sport but they require a physician's certificate before doing so.

Canopying

This technique was developed by scientists in the US to study the canopies of trees in Costa Rica without disturbing the environment. Scientists were able to study the canopy ecosystems in an in-depth manner because of this technique. The sport involves flying through the treetops of rain forests hanging from harnesses tied to ropes that could be done in a simulated environment.

Kite Surfing

Kite surfing involves standing on a board with straps or bindings tied to your feet and using the power of a large maneuverable board to propel across the water. The challenge is to manage the kite above you and the board below at the same time with your body being the only link between the too.

Paragliding

Paragliding as a sport developed from parachuting. It involves being airborne by a non-motorized, inflated wing. It is an exciting aerial sport. Most people launch themselves in the air by taking off from a hill or mountaintop. One glides through the air and is often in complete control of movement depending upon other circumstances.

Skydiving

Skydiving is a sport where you are initially flown to a high altitude and then made to jump from the plane with a parachute-attached backpack. One soars in the air and experiences a pleasant free-floating journey before reaching ground level.

Prerequisites

Extreme Sports are not meant for the weak at heart. You need to have a high level of physical fitness and mental agility. The to take risks is also another requirement. People who actively participate in such sports are usually people who lack fear of adventure. In the unlikely event of something untoward happening to you it always pays to be insured!
