Read on to the information on Hinduism, an ancient religion, a way of living according to the one understands of principles of Vedas and Upanishads.

History of Hinduism Religion:

Hinduism is possibly one of the oldest religions in the world, originated from the word Indus-the name of an Indian River about 5000 years ago. To understand Hinduism, it is necessary that we examine the history of Hinduism religon and marvel at its sheer stamina to survive in spite of repeated attacks across India's borders, time and again, by Greeks, Shaks, Huns, Arabs, Pathans, Mongols, Portuguese, British etc. The basic principles of the religion can be traced to Aryans who settled near the Indus valley in around 2000 B.C.

Hinduism religion traces its origin from the time of the Indus Valley Civilization in the twin cities of Harappa and Mohenjo-daro. The settlers from the northern region called the local population as Hindus as adherents of the Hindu religion - largely worshipping Shiva - the main deity. Shiva is often venerated in the form of Shiva Lingam symbolic of ancient fertility cults manifesting in the form of phallus. Hinduism has a rich set of rituals and symbolic ceremonies with a plethora of Gods indicating pantheism and a pluralistic approach. Till the recent time, Hinduism was more a way of life than a strict set of religion. Ascetics from this religion exhibited a detachment from the worldly pleasures of life. Later settlers even named part of the Pamir mountain range as HinduKush. Hindus believe in idol worship (karma), caste system (dharma-comprising of Brahmins, Kshaitriyas, Vaishiyas and Sudras) and reincarnation (moksha). Hindu religious scriptures include the Vedas, Upanishads, Mahabharatha and Ramayana.
