Remote-controlled cars are usually categorized as either "toy" or "hobby" grade. These vehicles differ from radio-controlled by the presence of a wire cable connecting the transmitter and the car, limiting their movement.

Remote Control Hobbies or Radio Control Hobbies are a great source of fun. The person pursuing these hobbies is very much in total control of the gadget he is maneuvering. In a good RC Hobby Store or Shop you will be able to find the right gadget for you be it an airplane, boat, ship, submarine or car. Most people interested in remote control hobbies start out with a Radio Control car, as it is the easiest to handle.

Remote Control Hobbies / RC Hobby

Power Source:

Almost all remote controlled equipments depend on the secondary storage devices like Nickel Cadmium batteries for their power requirements. Smaller models with modest power requirements still use primary cells to power their motors and the electronics. Primary cells supply high currents initially, which results in good performances for the motors and the actuators of the model. Many powerful models use Metal Hydride batteries for extra capacity and lower weights. Some may even sport lithium ion batteries for high-density power packages for extra endurance. The latter are the most expensive amongst the lot. Metal Hydride and Lithium ion batteries offer better power to weight ratio and in addition do not suffer from memory effect associated with Nickel Cadmium batteries. It is a good idea to charge them using only the chargers they are supplied with to retain their normal operating life.

FCC Regulations:

Operating Frequencies allotted for the remote control by the FCC (FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION) generally fall under - 27 MHz, 50 MHZ, 53 MHz and 72 MHz group. As per the guidelines set by the FCC, the R/C Service is a private, one-way, short distance non-voice communications service for the operation of devices at remote locations. Apart from the operating frequencies, FCC also stipulates the maximum power level usable by the RC units. Additional power using linear amplifiers to enhance the effective range can spell disaster for other Radio spectrum users and involve prosecution as well. It is often surprising to see enhanced distant operation using nothing more than a carefully tuned antenna at the handheld transmitter and at the receiver.

Remote control equipment includes toys and hobby equipment. No special skills or requirements are necessary to play a remote control hobby. How well you play depends on your ability to maneuver the remote control. It does help if you have a good sense of direction and control of the equipment. It is indeed loads of fun to watch a plane or helicopter that you control the movement of soaring in the skies. However it is also important that you be careful when handling remote-controlled equipment.

There is always the possibility that your equipment could get damaged or broken in a stray accident. Equipment that is in particular flown in the air could get caught in a tree or fly into an object. These are some of the obstacles when pursuing an RC hobby, which can be overcome with care and caution. Remote Controlled Equipment include a variety from airplanes, boats, helicopters, ships, sail planes, seaplanes and jet airplanes. Remote Control equipment can be purchased online or at an RC store. The equipment that you purchase can be selected from a catalogue of a variety of equipment. Online stores especially have web based catalogues that permit one to browse through and then choose the equipment to be purchased. It would be more advisable to visit a store to purchase Remote Control equipment. There is a wide variety of Remote Control equipment that you can chose from in terms of price and quality. Some Remote Controlled models run on a fuel called nitro methane (nitro).

Although these small engines look like miniature models of the bigger engines, there is a wide difference in their design. These engines use precision engineering to sculpt their parts and may use exotic materials for some components. Space age components result in expensive overall costs to acquire and to maintain. The bodies, which hold these powerful, but miniature engines can be made of carbon fiber instead of the usual balsa wood for increased rigidity and strength. After all, the most powerful Remote controlled gadget is used by the US Army - Prowler, which is crafted to provide maximum operator protection with superior performance, rugged reliability and exceptional stability in a combat environment.

The engines are prevented from overheating by lubricating them with a bit of castor oil that is in fact added to the nitro. Before indulging in an Remote Control hobby it is important to consider whether you would like to maneuver your equipment on the road, in the air or otherwise.

A RC Hobby Car is a radio-controlled car. It is easier to maneuver than an aircraft and depends on the simple usage of a remote control.
