Internet Radio / Free Internet Radio / Internet Radio Station
Internet radio is not radio, technically speaking. Internet radio is not broadcast with airwaves as in conventional radios. An Internet radio station broadcasts over the web, by transmitting digital signals over telephone or cable lines. So free Internet radio station is accessible to anyone who has access to the Internet. Some of the web casting is from traditional radio stations whose signals are converted to digital format and then transmitted to listeners worldwide. Web casting is transmitting real-time streaming audio (or video) to multiple recipients, who all receive the same content simultaneously. Streaming means playing audio (or video) real-time as it is downloaded. To tune in to an Internet radio station, you would need a computer with speakers, audio software, and a fast connection (at least 56k or higher). Some web casting is completely online. To web cast, you need some equipment like a microphone, CD player, mixer, computer, audio encoding software and a dedicated internet connection. Internet radio does not have the limitations of conventional radio. Free Internet radio offers variety in music genres and artists. One can listen to famous and not-so famous artists on a free Internet radio station. Free Internet radio offers all genres of music - classical, country, rock, pop, rap, reggae, blues, jazz - the list is endless. Free Internet radio station broadcasts are enjoyed by all music buffs, because of the quality and variety of music provided by these broadcasts. But many small-time Internet radio broadcasters have been forced to close shop because of rigorous licensing policies. Hopefully, music devotees all over the world will not let this new medium die.
