Information on Laser Hair Removal - Pregnancy Laser Hair Removal

Permanent hair removal methods, such as laser hair removal and electrolysis, are thought to be safe during pregnancy as well, but women are often encouraged to wait until after their pregnancy just to be on the safe side.

Information on Laser Hair Removal

The following is some basic information on laser hair removal and the benefits as well as some of the possible side effects.

The best possible patient for laser hair removal therapy has dark hair and light skin. This is because the treatment is preformed by gliding a laser beam over the affected area so as to destroy the hair follicle at its root. The laser beam tends to not reach below the kin surface if the skin type is one of a darker tone. The most recent information on laser hair removal indicates that people with light (sparse) hair and darker skin can benefit from such treatments if the area has very thin hair. However, results vary from patient to patient.

It is also important to note that as of this writing, there is no such thing as permanent hair removal; treatments should be done at the beginning of the summer season, or twice a year for athletes who need to have as little body hair as possible in order to compete in their sport. Some good news is that laser hair removal is an almost painless process, and that the hair stays gone much longer than with other treatments, such as waxing or electrolysis. Because of this, it is more cost effective as well.

Some of the side effects associated with laser hair removal are

  1. How well people respond to treatment have not been fully documented, and so do not trust clinics which offer guarantees.
  2. The safety of the procedure is also under scrutiny, but there haven't been many cases of intense scalding or burning of the treated area.

Pregnancy - Laser Hair Removal

If you are pregnant, laser hair removal might seem like an option, but it is only because the hormones associated with pregnancy have presented themselves as hair on your face and arms. While this can be a real downer, know that after the baby is born this will slow considerably. You may wan to consider laser hair removal after you've delivered. Even though there is no documentation of laser hair removal hurting a fetus, there is no documentation to the contrary, either. It is best to consult your OBGYN regarding any type of treatment you are considering when you are pregnant-laser hair removal included.
