NASCAR is the most popular and one of the fastest growing professional sports in the United States. This article contains detailed information about Richmond International Raceway, Pocono Raceway and Infineon Raceway, the three most popular NSCAR racing tracks.

Infineon Raceway Sonoma CA

Infineon raceway is located in the scenic Sonoma Valley in CA (California). This racing outfit was previously called The Sears Point and was renamed Infineon, after the German semiconductor company that bought the track. Infineon is one of the two road courses of the NASCAR circuit and the first official race at this raceway was held on the 1st of December 1968. This track has recently undergone a series of renovations and modernizations, and the most recent one was the $50 million Modernization Plan. Originally this racing track measured 2.52 mile and had 12 turns. Currently this is a 1.83-mile, 9 turn circuit and has a number of complex twists and turns that are almost impossible to memorize. The standing racing record for this track is 81.4 mph race created by Ernie Irvan in 1992.

Pocono Raceway

Pocono raceway is constructed in the Long Pond on the eastern Pennsylvania Mountains. This raceway is known to be one of NASCAR's most competitive speedways and is 2.5 miles long. Pocono is triangular-oval in shape and has three turns, each having a different degree of banking. The three straightaways of this raceway are Main Straight measuring 3,740 ft., Long Pond Straight measuring 3,055 ft and North Straight measuring 1,780 ft. Main Straight is the longest straightaway on the NASCAR cup circuit. The degree of banking in each of the turns also varies. Banking on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd turns are 14, 8 and 6 degrees respectively. This raceway has a seating capacity of 70,000 grandstand seats. Rusty Wallace holds Pocono raceway's racing record by driving at 144.892 mph.

Richmond International Raceway

Richmond International Raceway is one of the oldest racing tracks on the NASCAR circuit and is located in Richmond, Virginia. This track was originally paved in 1946, was redesigned in 1988. It has undergone a number of renovations since then. Designed as a "D" shaped oval, this track measures about three quarters mile. The track is 60 foot wide with a 10-foot apron, having 14-degree in-turns (8 degrees at starting line and two degrees on 860 foot back stretch) with 1290 feet front stretch. This track has 64 feet wide pit road having 43 28' x 19' pit stalls. The seating capacity of Richmond International Raceway is 105,000. The stands have 120 club level seats and 40 luxury skybox suites. Media facilities in this raceway include an infield media center having two dark rooms. A deadline filing room and excellent TV/Radio interview facilities are also available. All these recently renovated technological facilities have made Richmond one of the best racing speedways on the tour.
