Six Sigma Software

six sigma is highly disciplined approach for decision making; it is a data-driven approach and methodology that eliminates defects.

Six Sigma / 6 Sigma Software :

Motorola coined the term 'Six Sigma' in 1986. A Six Sigma process will produce 3.4 parts-per-million (PPM) failures, and this PPM corresponds to the area in the tail beyond 4.5 standard deviations above the mean for a normal distribution. Statisticians measure the variability in any process using Six Sigma software. In the Six Sigma quality initiative, the sigma level of their business processes measures the company's performance.

Six Sigma software is not about quality in the traditional sense. Six Sigma software is more about increasing the revenues of the organization. Six Sigma focuses on improving quality, which is, reducing waste by helping organizations, produce products and services better, faster and cheaper. Six Sigma identifies and eliminates costs that provide no value to customers. Six Sigma software is a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects in any process. Six Sigma aims for a practically error free business performance.

Responsibilities of people with the titles of Master Black belt, Black belt and Green belt in a Six Sigma Company:

Master Black Belt :

The Master Black Belt is the highest level of technical and organizational proficiency in a Six Sigma company. Masters help the black belts in applying the methods correctly in unusual situations. Communication and teaching skills and technical competence is necessary for a good candidate.

Black Belt :

People with a Black belt status in a Six Sigma company are technically oriented individuals who are held in high regard by their peers. They are expected to master a wide variety of technical tools in a relatively short period of time.

Green Belt :

Green belts in a Six Sigma company are team leaders who can form, facilitate and manage Six Sigma quality projects right from conception to completion.

The International Quality Federation (IQF) is a quality organization that certifies Six Sigma black belts. The mission of the IQF is to promote quality improvement throughout the world.

Six Sigma Quality :

There are four major requirements for successfully implementing Six Sigma quality within an organization regardless of the size of the organization:

Management Team Buy-in and Support :

The executive team must be supportive and proactive in establishing the Six Sigma quality initiative. For successful implementation of a plan or proposal, everybody's actions must be tied to it. Education would help people with the goal of obtaining the team's support for the initiative.

Education and Training :

Consulting companies provides most educational programs. The training would include an overview of the Six Sigma quality initiative, its benefits, case studies, how to implement the Six Sigma quality initiative and tools and resources.

Resource Commitment :

At least 5 to 15% of key employees' time must be assigned to specific projects. Black belts and / or Master black belts must be identified, trained and be assigned to the Six Sigma quality efforts of the company almost 100%.

Link to Compensation :

The best way to ensure the success of the Six Sigma quality initiative is to tie the results to the business bottom line, create performance goals, and compensate employees appropriately.

Management team buy-in and support and link to compensation are easier to implement in smaller companies than in larger organizations. Education and training and resource commitment are slightly harder to implement in smaller companies.
